About

The Great Midwest Football League was formed in March 2007 with the idea of bringing respectability and professionalism back to Semi-pro football in the Midwest. The Great Midwest Football League believes that with a certain kind of style and professionalism, it can change the minds of fans and sponsors about semi-pro football and once again make it into a family oriented and entertaining sport which local sponsors and media will find appealing.

With strict rules and guidelines, teams of the Great Midwest Football League will become fixtures in their communities. The right kind of players will be recruited and teams will be heavily screened and evaluated by the league's board of directors before they are granted acceptance into the Great Midwest Football League.

The Great Midwest Football League not only views semi-pro football as a hobby, but also as a business. Every team in the league serves as a business entity. Revenue, like in any business, is very important. It is also equally as important to maintain a quality product on and off the field. This is why the Great Midwest Football League believes the days of traveling the country to play a semi-pro football game are over.

Financially, it does not make sense. The average cost of a long distance trip is $3,500 per trip not to mention you loose your fan base. If a team travels from Chicago to play a team in Dallas, how many fans from Chicago do you think will travel to see their team play? The answer is very few. With only the home team's crowd in attendance, a team's attendance potential is severely limited, which then in turn limits its revenue potential.

That is why the Great Midwest Football League is broken up into two (2) Divisions; North and South. This short distance will help with every teams fan base. With this philosophy, the league's attendance records will show that games that generally average 40 to 50 fans will average 200 to 300 and with quality affordable football entertainment and family friendly atmosphere, that number should continue to rise every year.

A second reason why traveling does not make sense has to do with the players. There are all kinds of reasons why players play Semi-pro football. Some play because it is a second chance to advance to the next level. Others play because they are not ready to end their playing careers just yet. Whatever the case may be, players do not get paid to play and are not compensated when they get hurt. So, for most players, the idea of leaving their families for the weekend to travel long distances to another state for football is not an attractive one.

Players who play in the Great Midwest Football League are reassured in the fact that they will only travel short distances to games that are longer then 2-hours division games. Players are able to play competitive football without having to travel across entire states on long bus rides while leaving their families behind.

The league also plays its games during the summer months instead of fall. History tells us it is not wise to try to compete with the NFL, High School and College Football for game times. By playing its games to the summer months, the Great Midwest Football League does not conflict with NFL, High School or College games, which helps to strengthen the leagues fan base. What this also does is give the fans a more comfortable atmosphere to enjoy football and not worry about the cold and sometimes uncomfortable weather fall provides.

Players will be able to enjoy highly competitive games and a professional atmosphere that the league provides. The Great Midwest Football League is not for weekend warriors. It is a league that is very competitive. Players in the league range from all different kinds of talent levels. Some teams have ex-division 1 college players and ex-NFL training camp players on their rosters. In fact, more than half of the players who play in the Great Midwest Football League have college football experience.

The Great Midwest Football League recognizes the talent it has, which is why the league is currently in talks with player agents who have the correct resources to give certain young prospects the opportunity to tryout for "Professional" teams.

Players who would like to someday play college football can do so due to the fact that the Great Midwest Football League does "NOT" pay its players. They do not have to worry about losing their college eligibility.

The league believes that there are many diamonds in the rough that just need to be polished to compete on the next level. With the vision of bringing respectability back to Semi-pro football, the Great Midwest Football League will become a very respectable league within its community and continues to strive for excellence both on and off the field. Considering all of the accomplishments that have been made thus far, the Great Midwest Football League is clearly on the right path.
